It has been a process getting myself situated in this country in terms of my research, but things are falling into place now. I am a part of a weekly study group, Wednesdays at 4:15. Dr. Ringelberg, Erin, Will, Eric and I plan to meet and work independently on our projects, while being available to one another for feedback and critiques.
Last Wednesday we were oriented with the library of the University of Florence, which will be a helpful research tool for me. I am currently working on reading two books that I got at the Accademia: Leon Battista Alberti's On Painting and Leonardo on Painting, edited by Martin Kemp. Both of these books will offer Renaissance artists' own perspective on the issue of painting in the Renaissance.
Today I spent my first afternoon in the Uffizi, which was an amazing experience. I still have much more to see, but this was an introductory visit for me--I wandered around, acclimated myself to the positioning of various rooms, and took some notes on places I would like to revisit. I can see myself spending a lot of time there.
I have purchased a Friends of the Uffizi card, which allows me free entry into all of the city owned museums--many of these will be pertinent to my research, especially that dealing with Medieval and Renaissance artwork.
Quindi, sono finito per ora. A presto!
